In the month of new beginnings

The month of July must go down in our history as a month of deep significance. It was the month in which we held our very first Youth Convention in Budapest, Hungary and it was very well attended by participants from most of the countries in Europe Mainland. It was a glorious meeting with the theme, Arise and Build. Please wait for the report of the Youth Coordinator, Assistant Pastor Innocent Edo. My charge to the youth is attached separately to this note. It was an awesome moment as young men and women played all kinds of games, shared jokes and learnt together in an atmosphere of divine love and fellowship. Several teams drove themselves long distances to make it. Young and singles that missed this event missed something important.  Extract of my speech to the event is attached separately. Our local hosts were simply possessed with a spirit of hospitality.

After the month of perfection, comes new beginnings.  This makes the present month one of new beginnings in several ways.

First, we must commit to raising the quality of our service and ministry towards excellence. The secret according to the word of God is holiness, which has two critical elements: passion for righteousness and hatred for iniquity. By iniquity we mean, staying in sin, disobedience, profanity or commonness, like Esau who disregarded his first born heritage.  Holiness involves a realization that we are special creatures of the Almighty with a divine mandate to accomplish something specific for Him in this world.  It is the prerequisite to excellent oil of anointing which enables us to fulfill our destiny (Hebrews 1.9).

When a spirit of excellence was found in Joseph in a foreign land he rose to become head slave, head prisoner and ultimately prime minister in a foreign land, even though he was hated and betrayed by the very people supposed to protect and help him. When Daniel manifested an excellent spirit, he received instant and continuous promotion-all attempts to stop him only pushed further upwards (Daniel 6.1-3, 28). This is going to be your story and that of all those connected to you in this season in Jesus’ mighty Name. When the excellent oil of anointing was poured on David (1 Sam 16.12), he changed location from bush to the palace and having destroyed the great champion of the enemies of God’s people, the way cleared for him to become Israel’s next ruler as was ordained by the Almighty God (1 Sam.16.1). Even the Lord commended Nathaniel for having an excellent spirit (Jn 1.47).  

Second, this month we inaugurated the sub-regional structure. The objective is to raise the quality of our work in Europe Mainland. Please find attached who your country SRC is and the responsibilities of the sub-regional coordinators.

Thirdly, we must now engage seriously the business of selecting national teams to represent us in next year’s global competition within the RCCG global family. One important thing that was started but could not be completed at the Youth Convention in Budapest was the selection of the teams that would represent us in the Regional competition that would be holding next year, August.  In addition, serious thought is going on to the idea of a Leadership Academy for training and re-training leaders within and outside the RCCG family. You should hear more on this in the months to come.

Fourthly, as we did last year, we have selected our study book for this year. Last year, we studied Watchman Nee’s classic, Spiritual Authority. Many NCs diligently organized training sessions for their ministers and leaders although some others are yet to do so. This selected book for this year is another classic, The Purpose Driven life by Rick Warren. Some books must be read, re-read and digested. This is one of them. As people who have been called to help others actualize their destinies, this book is a must read for all leaders in RCCG Europe Mainland. We are again relying on you to study it so you can use it to train your own pastors and leaders. There would be questions set on the book during NC meeting in Thesalonika, Greece when we meet in October 14 and 15. Like those who went before us, we must be avid readers of books. Daniel discovered from reading books the time for the fulfillment of prophecy for Israel’s release from bondage and disgrace. Apostle Paul told his young protégé, Timothy, to bring his books and parchments even when he knew that his time to depart was at hand (2 Tim. 4. 6, 13).  

Each of the SRCs have books for NCs in their respective sub-regions so please expect to receive yours in a few days to come, so you can start to study ahead of our review session in October. The meeting in October would commence from 12 noon on Friday and go on till 12 noon on Saturday.

Finally, the General Overseer has given us a tentative date for next year’s Ministers’ Conference. Let us begin to prepare our people right now. The meeting would hold in Paris, France from April 26 to 28, 2012. Do not forget that next year also happens to be the 10^th anniversary of Europe Mainland as a region.
